Why Goals Dont Work

I know it goes against almost everything you see, hear and read about losing weight and getting healthy, but I’m telling you for most people, setting goals simply doesn’t work.

Let me explain myself before you pick up the pitch forks and torches.

Now I’m not saying that goals don’t work, but for most people, the act of setting and writing down their goals doesn’t produce very much in the way of results.

Do you know anyone that has written down their goals, put the sheet of paper aside and forgot all about it?

Ask me why I know this is what most people do?

They got the first thing right, they wrote them down. But your subconscious mind needs constant reinforcement, until it’s totally ingrained with the goals you have set for yourself. You have to connect the two.

I’ve seen a ton of people like that.

Got their goals down on paper, and 3 months, 6 months later they’re not an even an inch closer to achieving those results.

WHY? – Why Goals Dont Work

Here’s what I discovered about goals.

Doesn’t make me an expert, but it’s been my experience that…

… unless you have HUGE EMOTIONAL REASONS behind those goals that drive you to the point of OBSESSION…

… there’s practically no chance you’ll actually achieve it.

The WHY behind the goal is just as important as the goal itself. I would go farther and say that its MORE important.

And this is the missing link for many of you reading this now.

For years I wrote down my goals, how to achieve them … and I almost never hit them.

Heck, I didn’t even come close. Remember…I failed P90X 7 times.

For me, goal setting and thinking about my goals turned into a depressing activity.

Instead of adding fuel to my motivation, it turned me into a negative Nancy, thinking about all these times I wrote down my goals and didn’t achieve them.

You Ever Feel This Way? – Why Goals Dont Work

Well that all changed for me one day, when I listen to a very successful P90X grad.

And ever since, my life has never been the same.

Oh I still have challenges, setbacks, and failures…

… only they seem to be temporary, but my success and quality of life has been GREATLY enhanced since then.

As a matter of fact this thing is SO POWERFUL, that if you go out and find other successful coaches who have gotten amazing results…They will tell you the same thing!

In this message it said to take a sheet of paper.

Write down your goal.

Then, add in what its going to cost you.

Time, money – those types of investments.

Then he said to write down how your life would be different if you had achieved that goal.

IMAGINE what you want your life to look like.

And how getting healthy and in shape can get you there.

Now you don’t need to go all crazy.

I’m not talking about turning into a bodybuilder or some fitness model… although if that’s what you REALLY want, then put that down.

I find that for most people though, if you know you COULD be healthier, their life would absolutely change if they lost that last 10, 20, or 30 pounds.

But whatever that number is for you, figure it out. If its a certain shape you want your body to be in, figure it out.

Write it down, and now you’ve got a REAL GOAL with lots of emotional reasons why behind it.

These reasons are the fuel you need to keep you motivated and inspired.

This is what gives you the persistence you need to break through the obstacles and overcome any setbacks that will surely show up on your path.

Hey, it’s nice to have goals…we know that.

What’s going to give you the energy you need and fuel your desire are the reasons behind those goals.

Our mind likes clarity, and when you give it specific tangible goals, with lots of reasons behind them… interesting things start to happen.

Things start to unfold in your life in ways that’s hard to explain unless you have experienced it yourself.

All of a sudden you are able to live the life you have wanted.

You have the energy to do those things that you never used to have the time for (excuses, lol)

You become the person you WANT TO BE.

Truth is, you already are.

The KEY is to become aware and in control of it.

And I find that doing this little exercise can help you plant the seeds you NEED to reap the rewards you WANT.

I challenge you to set a few minutes aside today to do this, and watch the incredible boost to your enthusiasm, motivation and belief in yourself AND in your ability to achieve your goals.
